Graceland and Great Books

So, we're going to Tennesee this weekend and I have been needing a book. Luckily, Jylaire did a post on her current favorite book, Gift from the Sea...so, she convinced me and I'm gonna read it! What's in Tennesee, you ask? Um, hello...Graceland! I can't wait! I've been an Elvis fan since I was sooooo young. Seen his movies, read his biography, have his checks in my checkbook, etc. But also...Dan's older sister lives there and we are in dire need of a vacation. So, there ya have it.

Despite the fact that I never find much quiet time to read, I do in fact know how. And, I really like it. So, here are a few of my most favorite books...

1. A few years back, Dan and I bought our car on eBay that was in New York...so, we flew out there and drove it home. On the way home, we stopped at lots of great sites...but, also every church history site we could find. It was seriously an amazing trip! Best one I have ever done. My testimony had never gone through as much turmoil as it did on that trip. I learned so much. Lots of stuff I liked, some things I didn't. But, through it all...my testimony is 10 times stronger because of that experience. Anyway...that trip really sparked a huge interest of mine...church history. I swear, it is anything BUT boring! Needless to say...my coolest book to read is...

The History of Joseph Smith by his Mother - Lucy Mack Smith

I love that this book is ACTUALLY written by his mom. That's amazing! I also love that all the stories we hear about Joseph Smith...like about the mob, the jail, his home life, his siblings, etc....there is sooo much more to each story that we don't get to hear...but you do in this book. We hear the watered down, condensed version. Anyway, Lucy Smith is a natural author, a strong woman, and very inspiring.

2. I love C.S. Lewis. I love that he used to be atheist and was converted to Christianity. He's a genius. Seriously. My favorite book by him is Mere Christianity.
Almost half of this book I have highlighted because he has so many profound thoughts about life and religion. Love it.

3. Who couldn't love The Little Prince? It's such a sweet, innocent story that is a great reminder to not take life to seriously and remember what is most important.

4. More church history, but awesome book! The Presidents of the Church. Truman Madsen is super knowledgeable and this book is awesome because each chapter is about a different Prophet. It's cool to read stories about their life and feel more of a connection to them...rather than just knowing their name.

5. The Greatest Salesman in the World - by Og Mandino. This is not a "sales" book. Although, I have read more than my fair share of those while going to Weber. This is a book that will inspire you to be a better person. It's a short parable, and each chapter is the focus of a characteristic that will improve you. I love it. There is lots of thought-provoking stuff in there. Once again, my book is almost entirely highlighted.

I have lots more, but I think those are my top! You'll have to try them and let me know what you think!

I'm Dying To Know...

What are your pet peeves???

I'm giving myself permission to do a grouchy post, I hope you don't mind. I actually am feeling pretty happy but something happened today that REALLY chapped my hide... I was doing my grocery shopping. Shopping is not easy with 3 kids! Needless to say, I suffered through it and when I got home I realized that one of my bags never made it off the bagging-rounder into my cart! Agh! I hate that! It's not the easiest thing to throw my kids back in their car seats and run back for that ONE bag. Ugh. So, I called it a loss. But, I really am in need of those razors that were in the bag. My legs are getting hairier by the minute! I really CAN'T stand that! It seems to happen way more often than it should...THAT is my pet peeve #1. To even things out between me and Target, I steal small, meaningless items on a regular basis. It's only fair! ........just teasing.....

Here are some more of mine:
1. People eating straight out of the bag of chips...grosses me out.
2. Sitting down on the toilet and my butt gets wet with drips of my little boy's pee (sometimes my husbands too!) that is sitting on the seat. They are always trying to get aways with not lifting up the seat...NASTY! Grr......
3. People treating their pets like children. Yuck.
4. My arm pits being touched. Not okay.
5. Dishonest people...and people that exxagerate stories.
6. "Somebody" farting next to me in a small, enclosed space....the car, a tent, my bed.....hmm......
7. When people aren't listening to me when I talk! Aghh! It drives me crazy when someone asks me a question and when I am responding they are looking around the room, reading the newspaper, playing with kids, etc. I never know whether to just stop talking, quickly finish my sentence, or wait for them to tune back in.
8. Nudity and vulgarity in movies/TV. Life would be so much easier if we didn't have to filter what we watched.
9. Weird smells. They are highly distracting to me.
10. People without a backbone! (not literally...)
So, let's hear it! Be grouchy for a minute and share your pet peeves!

A Quick, Little Getaway...

Over the weekend, we took a super quick trip to Cedar City. We met up with Marc & Bonnie...Dan's spectacular brother and fabulous wife. (We love them so much that we didn't even get a picture of them...sad.) They live in Vegas, so it's always fun to see them and their two little hellions. (Just kidding, Bonnie. We love your kids!) If you want to see their brand new blog and cute family it's www.mbwangsgard.blogspot.com.

So, we played in the hotel pool, ordered pizza, and such. We also took all the tots to Brian Head to go skiing/snowboarding. I sucked....hard, trying to snowboard. But, we were so proud of Caden for being brave and skiing down the hill by himself! It took lots of pressure and some great coaching from Marc...but, Caden ended up loving it. My stupid camera kept running out of batteries, so no pictures.

However, my camera pulled it together for 2 minutes and I managed to snag a couple shots on our way home. We stopped at Zions for a few minutes (literally)...

And here's the kids in the back seat of the car...really exciting.

So that's it. Now we're home...back to the daily hustle and bustle.

A Child's Prayer

Sweet Baby Shane says the funniest and sweetest prayers! I love that he puts a lot of thought into what he did 'wrong' during the day and tries to make it right through his prayer. I often times find out about a lot of things he's done that I didn't know about...just by listening! He better be careful!

So, this was his prayer last night...

"Heavenly Father,
Thank you for my blessings.
Thanks you for my family.
Help me to be good.
Help me to be nice.
Help Dad to have a good day at work.
Help me not to tell my brother to 'lick my butt cheeks'.
Help me to have happy dreams...

.....Amen."

What a great kid.

The Cat's Out of the Bag!

Yes, this is baby #4. Eleven weeks old. This...among moving and house crap...is the real reason I have been failing to post. This baby is wearing me out! I want to sleep ALL DAY and I have motivation to do pretty much NOTHING BESIDES EAT. So, there ya go. My husband can't keep a secret so you are ALL allowed to know now!
Aghh! Four kids! Can I do it??? I'm SCARED!
